PRETTY LITTLE BULL

1967 Lamborghini Miura.

I’m not alone in ranking it at the top of a very exclusive list of beautiful cars. A very young Marcello Gandini is credited with the Miura’s lines—the very same Gandini who would go on to style five other Lambos, the iconic Lancia Stratos, various Maseratis, etc., etc. The man knows a curve.

The Miura is the seed of the supercar. As such, it is loaded with distinction, from its transverse V12 (the only car with such a set-up) to its ultra-sexy profile. Even the “eyelashes” surrounding the headlights draw admiring stares.

I captured this Miura P400 at David Gooding’s Pebble Beach Auction last weekend. It was parked in the Gooding tent, which really does give new meaning to the word “tent.” The twinkling reflections? Those would be from the chandeliers. The car crossed the block the night of Saturday the 16th, hammering sold for $330,000.

I shot it on the 30D with my new 50mm f1.8, which I love. I’ve done nothing to the image but post it here, and I must say I’m thrilled with the result.
